Infinity Scarf vs. Loop

What is the difference between an infinity scarf and a loop? Is there a difference? I really like the word loop so that’s the word I use, but when my goddaughter was here to visit earlier this month (she came all the way from Charlotte, NC and we were thrilled to see her!) she asked me to make her an infinity scarf. It had to go twice around her neck and she chose the yarn herself: dark grey alpaca and silk … I wonder, if it is ever going to be cold enough in NC for her to wear it 🙂

Her choice of pattern was Hiroko Fukatsu’s Cupido Cowl and that’s what she got. Even though it did not turn out the way I wanted it to be. It could not turn out that way. The yarn is way too fluffy and fuzzy so you don’t actually see the pattern. I should have known. Well, I know now. But it’s very nice to the touch – and my goddaughter was happy. That’s all that counts, right? She promised to send pictures but for now it’s only the cowl, displayed on a garden chair. (It’s well worth to look at the original over at ravelry to see the texture.)

Now, I am working on another loop. It will be more of a turtleneck. I don’t particularly like the color but as the ball of yarn was given to me by a very dear friend I think of her when knitting round after round after round … which is good.

Gardening

Last weekend my parents were here to visit. As they live on a farm they would give us tomato plants to be planted in our garden.

The box they used as a tray says „ray of sunlight“. However, what I liked best are the support sticks. Sharing them with you is a must.

You do recognize them as what they are, right? Of course, once we have tomatoes they will be red and yellow respectively. (I am serious – that’s what my mom said). 🙂

The Purple Lace

My sister is 50 today. She’ll have a party at her house and then on Thursday her and her family – brother-in-law, my 3 nephews, and 2 nieces – will drive all the way up to Berlin to stay with us for a long weekend and to celebrate some more.

The house is getting ready (I am counting couches, bedsteads, and mattresses …) and so are we.

And YES, I did finish the lace in time! In spite of my quarrelling, unraveling, and whining 🙂 When halfway through, I actually loved making it. The color is gorgeous, the feel is just how I wanted it to be, and the pattern is beautiful.

So, pleased as I am, I am posting more pictures than usual.

J’s loop

J wanted a loop. It had to be „a lot of blue and some red,“ it had to be long enough to go twice around his neck, and it had to be made of sock yarn. (Itchy, I know. Not for him though).

Nothing to write home about, if it wasn’t for the picture 🙂

April II

A cat wrap scarf turned out to be a lot bigger than I thought it would … But I could not resist the thick fickle colored yarn. Doesn’t it look like a cat’s skin?

J really liked the scarf until today, when he found the remains of a jaybird in our garden. Obviously a cat had hunted down our winged friend (I will spare you the details).

A small comfort to know, that sooner or later J would have grown out of a cat scarf anyway. Probably in favor of some gruesome acrylic accessory featuring either LeBron James or Tony Parker or their NBA teams respectively … I dread that day 🙂
